The Ristorante Agli Alboretti has reopened. After being closed for a year for remodeling the restaurant is back, keeping alive a locale with a celebrated history in the city. Here, today, you will also find our grappas. During the ‘50s and ‘60s, the "Agli Alboretti" Restaurant was a meeting place for artists and patrons of art. Peggy Guggenheim often ate here with her artist friends.
For those who were born under the zodiac sign of Libra the answer is in harmony. The same goes for UvaeUva, our white grape distillation. In this distillation we find precious white grapes. Fully ripe grapes harvested with care, then pressed and fermented in stainless steel containers before moving on to the distillation phase. Our search is for delicacy and lightness. And the light hint of Muscat is in total harmony in the taste and the aroma.
Last week we hosted a very pleasant visit: a group of Argentinean students from the wine-making University of Mendoza. Several months ago the students from the wine-making school in Conegliano made a visit to the places suited to viniculture and wine-making in the Province of Mendoza.

Grappa di Spergola di Scandiano is precise, elegant, and sought-after. The variety of grape that this grappa is made from is, in fact, a small local heritage of the town of Scandiano in Reggio Emilia. These white grapes have been present from time immemorial in the hills and foothills around Scandiano.

The Scura Riserva (Dark Reserve) is a majestic and regal grappa. Just like those born under the Zodiac Sign of Leo the Lion. The 30-month Scura Riserva is obtained by a careful distillation of red grapes, aged in Allier oak barrels.
Terrossa, the new grappa dedicated to Antonio Fogazzaro has been born. As anyone from Vicenza knows, this year is the one hundred year anniversary of Antonio Fogazzaro’s death, but perhaps not everyone knows that Fogazzaro was particularly linked to the town of Montegalda.
In the past we find Proust recovering his memory through taste. Madeleines, the sweet, buttery, shell-shaped cakes brought back memories of the writer’s childhood. On the other hand, in Italian our memory is called, as the name itself says, Memora, that is, memory, in English. This is a grappa tied to our history, that just gets stronger as time passes.
Three years have passed since the death of Mario Rigoni Stern, but the passing of time has not affected the friendship or the memories that bind us to the writer. It was in 1990, on our 150th anniversary, when Mario dedicated a new story to us, entitled “Due storie quasi una allegoria” (“Two Stories, Almost an Allegory”).

The grapes of this type come from the area of Viterbo, more precisely from Monti Volsini, that in a remote era belonged to a complex of volcanoes, christened Vulsinio.
Spring has brought new bottles and new labels for our three grappas: La Grappa Scura Oro (Grappa Dark Gold), La Scura GB (Dark GB), and la Uva&Uva (Grapes&Grapes). La Grappa Scura Oro is worthy of a special presentation: it is the newest arrival in the Brunello family. To create this amber-coloured grappa we had to rely on all our experience.
A trip to Morocco leaves a good mark. Last week Paolo was in Meknes at the invitation of the Moroccan General Consul. He was there as a representative for Terranostra, the Coldiretti Family Farm Association. The local authorities were waiting to accompany him around the area and on a visit to an international agricultural fair that was just held during the last few days.
May is the month of Taurus. This is the zodiac sign of practical and straightforward people, people who love their homes and nature. The Taurus is very tied to his origins. Like our Grappa Vicentina, a grappa with a strong tradition, made only with Vicentine grapes. Grappa has been an integral part of the history of our territory and Grappa Vicentina is the synthesis of this tie.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and coincides with the month of April. Aries are fearless and impatient, adapt easily to change. Just like the Cruvajo grape. In appearance it is a cursed grape which never seems to mature completely. For this reason its cultivation was almost completely abandoned, except for a few rare exceptions. But those who had the courage to follow this torturous path have discovered the wonders it can hold.
Eleven representatives of “Friends of wine” from Austria, Germany and Switzerland, have been guests in our area during the last few days. Accompanied by two young ladies from the Vicenza Consortium, they visited 8 wine cellars and 3 distilleries, ours included. An occasion to taste the products available in DOC Zone 6 and the various DOP and IGP products, as well as traditional and De.Co. products.
Today we want to tell you a story, the story of our distillery and the wine shops of Rome. It was during the Eighties, when, Paolo Brunello first brought products from the family distillery to the best wine shops of Rome. Traditional Vicentine grappa begins to make a name for itself among the Roman clientele. During that same period of time there was also a senator from the Veneto who personally chose Brunello grappas as gifts for his parliamentary friends back then.
For every grappa a zodiac sign. Don’t worry, the first warm weather hasn’t gone to our heads. We have no scientific pretext and no ambition to be like Paolo Fox o Robert Brezsny. We simply like to think that our grappas possess well-defined traits and characteristics.
For us, it is always a pleasure to welcome our friends and colleagues to the distillery. Accompany them to visit our historic facility to conclude with a tasting of our products. As it happened a few days ago with their friends in the Anag of Gorizia. Captained by Chairman Bruno Fortunato have been our guests, have tasted the grappas and before returning to Friuli have dined with the inevitable bacalà alla vicentina.

Clean energy is becoming more and more popular in our company. Solar panels were installed last year in the distillery. The photovoltaic system will also be applied as from tomorrow for agritourism and commercial farm.

To celebrate the 170 years of history of our distillery, we have decided to organize a great celebration. That is, that on Monday 5th July, at 9.15 p.m., Mario Brunello will play his music, among the most famous cellists of the world. Together with his colleagues Damiano Scarpa, Angelo Zanin and Riccardo Pes, he will show in the concert “Distillati musicali (Music distillates), music from Bach to The Beatles.

We enjoy receiving people in the distillery, telling about our work and history of our family. Particularly, it is an attentive audience as the one present on Saturday, in the third meeting of approaching course to the wine and grappa in four stages proposed by the Company Qualithos.

A common place exploded: a grappa tasting cannot take to exceed the alcohol limits that allow driving. The test has taken place at the end of the Tiramisu and Grappa evening, which has foreseen the tasting of four grape distillates. Cristina Miatello, one of the participants (and Paolo and Giovanni Brunello cousin), after leaving the distillery was stopped by a police patrol and was subjected to a breathalyser: negative result (and a huge sigh of relief).
Tiramisu and Grappa: it was possible! The answer comes from the evening organized by the section of Vicenza dell’Anag (National Association of Grappa Testers) in our distillery. The protagonists were three Tiramisu prepared by the skilful banqueter, Perla Raschini, and four of our grape distillates to create a combination more than usual.
The first edition of "Mondo Moscato", an international symposium devoted to Muscat wine, will be held in Abano Terme. We will not miss it and we will be there to introduce our Muscat grappa Fior d'Arancio. In particular, on Sunday 16th May, at 3.00 p.m., we will participate
On Wednesday 19th May, at 9:00p.m., in our distillery, we will entertain with an unusual Italian combination between the tiramisu and our grappa. The evening is promoted by Anag that each month organizes meetings about the world of grappa.
Qualithos Enterprises propose the first itinerant course for an initial approach to learning about grappa and wine. The initiative is called “Quattro per Qualithos” (Four for Qualithos), a means of getting to know wine and grappa in four stages, one for each of our enterprises.
On Tuesday 4th May, at 8.15p.m. we will guest in the Trattoria and wine-tasting shop of Giorgio Schiavon in Falzè di Trevigiano (TV) to present our grappa.
Last week, seven sommeliers from Russia have visited the distillery, accompanied by our great importer, Anna Erba. Expert hosts who work in famous restaurants in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. A special visit, which started with a guided tour in the distillery and ended with a tasting session of our grappas.

Do you have a blog? Are you enamored with food and wine? Well this is your chance to enter and judge the world of grappa. And specifically with the vintage grappas that we have been distilling in Montegalda, in the Province of Vicenza, for the past 170 years. Our idea was to create a tasting panel for grappa. And what grappa!
Between October 23 and October 25 we will be participating in the First National Food and Wine Festival. More and more often wines and spirits are considered valid reasons for travel integrating the world of wine production with the landscape, history and culture of a particular territory. In other words, food-and-wine tourism.
The tasting meetings continue with the Qualithos Group. Last week we hosted the Vicenza Ais delegation for a combination: Red Qualithos Thai wine and pizza. And our tai grappa with a sweet pizza. The aptness of this combination was recognized by the assiduous public, lead by Mariucia Pelosato. It was awarded full votes.
Again this year the annual appointment with “Open Distilleries” is back. This event is dedicated to bringing together grappa lovers and grappa producers. And this is one appointment that we cannot miss. Between October 4 and 11, 2009, we will celebrate Grappa Week together with other Vicenza distilleries. We will be opening our doors to everyone, grappa lovers and not, revealing all the secrets behind distillation, fruit of the traditions and the knowledgeable work of master distillers.

We welcomed the television cameras of Sky at our Midsummer’s Festival (Festa di Mezza Estate), the event we organised last July in the courtyard of our distillery. Cristoforo Di Tella, presenter of the programme Antichi Sapori, has interviewed us to have details about our company, products and story. He has drunk to the birth of the two new grappas of ours: “La Scura” (the Dark Grappa) and “La Scura Riserva” (the Dark Riserva).
The Cognac, which is mainly produced in the department of Charente, is probably the best known distillate in the world. Where culture is, there we are. Especially if the proposal exceeds the institutional canons to take on more original forms, nearer to people. We are still more present when culture reflects the particular characteristics of our territory, to which we devote our best attention. At the Festa di Mezza Estate we had announced the presentation of two new grappas our company was going to produce and when presented the grappas met everybody’s expectations. Their official début was made at the evening party organised at the distillery. A great time for us started soon afterwards.
We are going to have a double celebration this year at Midsummer Party, the event that we have been organizing for some years in our distillery. We will share with our guests the launch of two new types of grappa: the “12 months aged Dark” and the “30 months aged Dark Reserve”. Two types of grappa recalling family tastes and traditions: the spirit of our territory.
Fully satisfactory outcome of the First Symposium on Grenache Terroir. The convention that we organized together with other producers of Qualithos Group (Piovene Porto Godi, Dal Maso, Le Pignole), was an important meeting and developing occasion for each one of us, which ended with the undertaking of all winemakers to meet next year for a second symposium, extended to other wineries and areas.

Two more events putting our grappas in the spotlight. Last year on May 28 the Restaurant La Barca di Taranto devoted an evening of grappa tasting, accompanied by fish. A bold combination, but one that succeeds remarkably. From the risotto to the sea urchin, through the fried whitebait, up to the cigars concluding the meal
It is no secret that we are always touring through Italy on the hunt for native grape varieties. At the end of May we have come to Sicily, land of Malavoglia and Gattopardo. And as always there were many guests at the local festivals. Playing the lead role, of course, were our grappas. The first event was May 24th in Palermo with "Cigar in grappa": an evening dedicated to cigars, grappa and coffee.
Our two new offers French oak barrels. They are called “La Scura” and “La Scura Riserva”. For us, the grappa aged in wood represents a return to the past. On our part, grappa has always been preserved in barrels to let it rest, and to refine it with the features acquired from the wood varieties.
The Cerca Sapori cameras were guests at our distillery. Fabrizio Gatta – host of the Rai Due show – was thrilled with us and fascinated by our work; he overwhelmed us with questions. The show - supported by the Zaia Min. of agriculture, and reporting in the world of Italian wine-and-food – spent three days in the Vicentine land to discover the peculiarities of the dinner table in our land.
Katia Ricciarelli, patroness of honour at the presentation of the new brand “VILLA”. The new brand Villa-Vicenza Luxury Labels was presented in Vicenza. With this new acronym, seven Vicentine companies are introduced to the international market, to represent many typical products of Berica province.
